Wireless Speakers - A Reality?

Cables and wires around the home are nuisance, and the more electronic kit you have the more there will be. The average home cinema set up with the standard 5 speakers and subwoofer will have no less than 20 cables going to it. It's not so much the cables at the back of the AV Amp that cause the problems, these can be neatly stored using a cable ties and a multitude of cable management systems. It's more the speakers at the rear that require cables travelling around the perimeter of the room that cause the problems. They either need to be tacked to the wall, hidden in trunking, or go up in to the ceiling and then reappear where your speakers will live.

There are now though a number of systems that allow you to wirelesses attach your rear speakers to your amp. In most cases the back speakers are connected together with a wire, but nevertheless this does solve the problem of having wire trailing around the room. You may ask why the speakers can't be wireless all together? The speaker requires an amplified signal to play sound and this means that it needs power, there are battery powered speakers on the market but the truth is that these are hopelessly under-powered or there batteries need replacing frequently. When taking in to account the lifetime cost of the batteries you may well have been better of paying a professional to hide the cables in the first place.

If you already have your own rear speakers then there is no need to but a wireless home cinema kit. There are retro-fit kits available that will enable you to have wireless rear speakers using your existing ones.

So the reality is that the true wireless (put a speaker any where you want regardless of power sources) is still not really possible, to the true audiophile the sound quality will be greatly impaired. The technology is getting there and in a couple of years I believe it will be a possibility. In truth 'wireless' really mean no connection between front and rear speakers and to many people this will be sufficient.

What You Can Get With Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 Wireless Systems

In recent years, computer users are able to use Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 wireless speaker system, which has earned ratings among the best in the industry. With subwoofer in sizes of 9.8 inches in width; 9.5 inches in height and 10.2 inches in depth, plus a driver which is 6.5-inch located within an enclosed port to boost bass effect.

The back of the subwoofer boast a standard terminal with spring-clip allowing you to connect to satellites; a power cable which is permanently included; a connection for pre-amp control and also a sync switch to establish the wireless connection. In addition to these features, the subwoofer also has the power switch for the system on the back, which means that you have to crawl beneath the desk to turn off the power.

All the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 satellite speakers are roughly 8.5 inches in height, 4.2 inches in width and 5.7 inches in depth. The front of the speakers comes with 0.75 inch tweeter and 3 inch mid-range driver behind the removable plastic and mesh grill.
